Virgo New Moon August 2025
The Sun enters Virgo & the New Moon in Virgo
The Sun just moved out of fiery Leo and into practical and earthy Virgo this afternoon, Friday, August 22, 2025. The Moon will align with the Sun in the 1st degree of Virgo for the New Moon at 2:07am in the wee hours of Saturday morning, bringing the inner and outer together for realization and connection of how you feel about yourself and your space.
You can think of the Sun's ingress into Virgo and the Virgo New Moon happening within ten hours of each other as Virgo season. The Sun remains in a zodiac sign for 30 days and a Lunar cycle lasts about 28.5 days, so the Soli-Lunar cycle is pretty focused for the month ahead!
Some of the keynotes of Virgo are discernment, letting go, digestion and preparation. In the body, Virgo rules the small intestine and it's job is to differentiate between what is useful and what is not needed. That applies to what we consume literally and figuratively, putting the focus squarely on our thoughts as we make healthier choices about what we choose to take in.
Virgo tendencies are toward perfection and self-criticism which can devolve into finding fault with others as well. Letting go of judgement, shame, and blame is a wonderful alternative, and that takes some practice. Daily life is filled with opportunities to practice mindfulness, or being aware of what it is we're doing to take care of ourselves. For instance, when preparing a meal, you can think of all the people who grew, harvested, transported, sold and prepared all the food you are about to consume. Bless it all, then slowly eat and enjoy your meal!
There's a sacredness to Virgo, the symbol of the Virgin, that accompanies our efforts to focus on spiritual growth, releasing judgement and self-criticism. Just do your best and that can be different at different times.
Mindfulness allows us to nourish ourselves and our loved ones as we prepare to move inward during the late Fall and Winter months.
